Details

Ayodhya Math is located at Kodla village on the east bank of the ancient river Bhairab, about 4 km from Jatrapur Bazar on the old Bagerhat-Rupsha road. Built in a square at the bottom, each arm of the monastery is 26-7-long on the outside. The size of the inner cell is 10x5x10x5x. The brick wall is 6 feet 6 inches wide. The size of the bricks used in the monastery is 6 inches x 3 inches x 2 inches. Polished red bricks are of very high quality. The height of the monastery is about 64 feet 6 inches from the ground. A particularly interesting aspect of this monastery is its external decoration. The monastery is believed to have been influenced by the style of construction of temples in the Orissa region up to the sixteenth century AD.

It is not known exactly when and by whom this monastery was built. However, it is engraved on the monastery.

........................ Shame.

Purpose Tarakong (Brahma) [Prasha] Dohang Binirmit.

As far as this decayed lineage can be deciphered, it is inferred that this monastery was most probably built by a Brahmin (Sharmana) for the purpose of gaining the palace of Tarak (Brahma). Besides, there are rumors that the monastery was built on the ashes of someone. The monastery was built by the proverbial king Pratapaditya as a memorial to his sabhapandita "Immediate Saraswati". Built of terracotta ornaments, this medieval temple is a shining example of architecture.
